    Mr. Michael SCHENKAH!

    Before my addled brain forgets...

-Saw the Michale Schenker Group tonight...another thing to cross off
the bucket list. The man's music defined my teenage-dom & early
adulthood-dom. Saw him at the Showcase Live venue in Foxborough, MA,
the entertainment facility where the Pats play. His touring lineup on
this leg of the tour includes Gary Barden on vox, Carmine Appice on
skins, Wayne Findlay on rhuthm guitar & keys, and...Elliott Rubison,
the owner of Dean guitars on bass.

Schenker actually looked good...and dare I say, happy. A real bonus
that he was very interactive with the audience, something very unusual
for him. He even sang background vocals. His sound was decidedly
"metallic", not as organic as I would've liked (a lot of his guitar
was going through the PA), but glimpses of "that" tone were there to
be had. The mix was heavily skewed towards his guitar, I'm guessing
because that's what the audience was there for. Highlights include
"On and On", "Attack of the Mad Axeman", "Lights Out", "Into The
Arena" and a sick extended solo on "Rock Bottom". Amazing what he can
do using only 3 fingers (he rarely engages the pinkie). He mixed in a
bunch of new-ish tunes that I'd never heard ofOn the downside, way too
many necky-bendy thingies, and the man *should* know by now how to do
a decent pick scrape. Also, given his metallic tone for the night,
I'm bummed he didn't do "Mother Mary", or anything from the "Built To
    destroy" album.

The venue was real nice, small enough to have a good, close view no
matter where you were. A good mix between standing room & sit-down
areas. For a place that was obviously built for sound, it wasn't that
impressive...and way too loud for such a small place, especially given
that the demographic consisted of bunch of nostalgic 40-50-
somethings. I don't know how to feel when I see an elderly woman,
full white ponytail, walk by wearing a Judas Priest T-shirt.
Generally a good, well-behaved crowd; minimal, if any, douchebaggery.
Grabbed a decent burger there, but $7 beer? Cripes...but, nice
boobies on the wait & bar staff. The femmes, that is.

Carmine Appice was good, a bit too much of a self-indulgent drum solo,
but the guy 'zgot chops. He missed a couple of nuances on a few
songs, probably because he hasn't been with the touring band for very
long. His drum sound was real dull & sundued, especially the snare
and cymbals. Really got lost in the mix. I like Schenker's rhythm
guy, Wayne Findlay...solid Paul Raymond, Jack of all trades dude.
Rubison on bass was...ok. the bass frequencies didn't blend in very
well at this place, so the bass tended to get lost.

Gary Barden's range is shot. His mic was totally buried in the mix in
favor of Michael's guitar, but it's probably a good thing. He
indulged the audience in singing a lot of his parts, especially the
    choruses. Decent front man, though.

    'nite...

Thanks. That was a good write-up, especially, " I don't know how to
feel when I see an elderly woman, full white ponytail, walk by wearing
a Judas Priest T-shirt". Personally, I'm getting old enough to enjoy
    that.

Yeah . . . real nice review! Glad that you had a good time D. You
know Rich, I'm beginning to think that Einstein had it right . . .
time is relative to the observer. If you're an 80 year old dude, a 50
year old woman is a "young chick." Life is funny and then it's
    gone . . .

In the standing room area in front of the stage, there was this one
guy who obviously brought his young son (maybe 12 yrs old?) to share
in the experience. He even had the kid wear a MSG concert T. It was
    sweet.

I love people watching at these things. My buddy & I kept looking
around, trying to peg everyone. We somehow got stuck next to probably
the douchiest bunch of guys in the room, a group of guys that clearly
never made it out of the the 80's. Real loud, real obnoxious, spittle
flying, lots of air guitar. We caught a break when they decided to
migrate in front of the stage when the opening act came on (Sister
Sin, a Crue-wannabe foursome from Sveden).

On the flip side, right in front of us was a couple that looked right
out of central casting for The Sound Of Music...I asked my buddy what
he thought the odds were that those two would be going apeshit during
the show. I think we're safe, was the reply.

....perhaps not. But you'll be more comfortable if you have more
    comfortable stuff...

....I'm actually pretty proud of myself, turning 50 last fall. Spent a
goodly deal of my life thinking I wouldn't make it this far...nearly
    didn't in the fall of '06 - turned 47 in a hospital bed. Now I have a
FAR different perspective on getting older.

I vaguely recall being 50....VERY vaguely!
